Looking for a photographer to capture your spirit on film has always been a challenge for me.  I have spent many hours and dollars researching and getting head shots unworthy of my look, marketing strategy, and branding my image.  To make matters even worse, there are so many photographers on the market now that it is nearly impossible to choose just one.  I found Robert Kim after reading about him in Glenn Alterman’s book, “An Actors Guide, Making it in New York.”  The author dedicated an entire chapter to him and after I called him, I realized that there was a good reason he picked him out of the hundreds of headshot photographers in the Tri-State area.  But the real reason I eventually chose Robert to capture my images is simply because his photographs demonstrated a superior level of skill, technique and professionalism that I have not seen in anyone else’s portfolio, anywhere.  Just look at the “portfolio” and “before and after” photos on his website.  There is no comparison… and many of the “befores” on his site are by photographers in the $1,000.+ range who many claim are “the best of the best.”  Not.  When I saw his price, I could hardly believe how reasonable he was, but pictures don’t lie. But what happened next really impressed me.

I could tell just by talking with him briefly on the phone, number one, that he cared about his craft, and number two, that he actually knew what he was talking about.  After I’d emailed him several of my old head shots, he called me back with his suggestions, including his suggestion that I actually return on TWO SEPARATE DAYS to shoot all the options he recommended, at no extra charge, just so he could accommodate my many hair and beard and wardrobe changes!  And this was his idea!!  Talk about “quality time,” this has never happened to me before, and at his (or anyone else’s) price range, impossible.  Couple this with the fact that he is unassuming, charming, talented, professional, personable and knowledgeable like no other head shot photographer in the business, and, well, you do the math. My confidence level in this man to give me what I wanted was already through the roof.  But the end results were far better than that; they were completely and totally off the charts, beautiful beyond my ability to describe.  Perhaps it was his experience as a working actor himself, or maybe his time spent in the industry, but to get the real “me” on the very first attempt and with this degree of detail and dynamism is an experience I won’t ever forget.

P.S.  Robert posted four of my new headshots on his website.  Just call him to see them, and please mention me 🙂
